International Summer School on Social Human-Robot Interaction

The International Summer School on Social Human-Robot Interaction welcomes PhD students and early career researchers for an intensive five days of lectures and ateliers covering a wide range of topics in social HRI.

The summer school will be held at Christ’s College, University of Cambridge, UK from Monday 26 August to Friday 30 August 2013. Lectures, activities and meals are all collocated in Christ’s College. Participants have the opportunity to stay in the college’s student residencies.

The summer school will have a wide-ranging programme of lectures, discussions and hands-on ateliers on topics such as social signal processing, robotics and autism, child-robot interaction, multi-modal communication, natural language interaction, smart environments, robot assisted therapy, interaction design for robots, tools and technologies, and ethics. The school is for participants who want to study the interdisciplinary science and technology supporting social human-robot interaction through lectures and hands-on experiences.

Interested students need to apply to the summer school via the online application process. Applications are accepted until 30 April 2013. There are a limited number of scholarships available which cover participation and accommodation fees. Full fees are available to non-European participants, while European participants can apply for reduced fees.

 The International Summer School on Social Human-Robot Interaction is organised by Prof Tony Belpaeme (Plymouth University), Dr Yiannis Demiris (Imperial College London), Prof Kerstin Dautenhahn (University of Hertfordshire), Dr Farshid Amirabdollahian (University of Hertfordshire).

It receives support from the FP7 ALIZ-E and ACCOMPANY projects, the euCognition Network of Excellence and the IEEE RAS Summer Schools programme.
